Singing away Christmas

The Friday before Xander’s school vacation started, they had a winter/Christmas Concert. We were really looking forward to this all month. The kids had been practicing all month and even when Xander came home all he did was sing his songs. He would come home each day after school and tell us that the teacher had moved him once again and this time he was on the stage or off the stage with a cowboy hat. We had finally reach a point in our life where we had  a school aged kid and were finally getting that chance to do all the school stuff that we had anxiously been waiting for.

Well the day had finally come and I think I was more nervous than he was. Xander didn’t really seem to care, even though we knew he did, and even more was Lance actually being able to be there, Working the morning shift had been tough for Lance. He was always missing out on all the school activities, but now, he wasn’t going to miss anymore for a while! Though I had always taken tons of pics and video to show him later, there is nothing better than the real thing!

The concert started off with a bang! It was great and loud and Zoey loved every minute of it. Of course, while the classes were switching out, Zoey had nothing better to do than try to escape and steal everyone’s attention, which she did! The fifth graders were the funniest. They always had this look on their faces like “Do I really have to do this?” and the younger kids, kinder and first grade were so quiet and pretty zoned out! Then the ones in the middle just knew what they were doing! It made us giggle a bit. I think it was a fourth grade class that did this amazing little skit to The Polar Express! It was WONDERFUL! They got into their parts and even the teacher did a bit of acting! Then it was time for Xander’s class. They were the very last performance of the concert.

The funniest thing happened.

All week we had been hearing how wonderful and lively they had been and how loud they could sing. Then when it was time to get on stage, it all kind of sank in really fast. There were a lot of people and I think they had a bit of stage fright. They were a bit on the quiet side and didn’t really want to do much, but they did an AMAZING job! It was their first time doing something like this! Give them a break! Xander of course, being the funny little boy that he is, spent most of the performance pretending that his hat kept falling off. It was soo hilarious! We knew he would do something like that, its just so Xander like!

The concert was great and the kids all had a great time (though I’m not too sure about those 5th graders!). We can’t wait for whatever comes up next. We just love all this school stuff (except for that pesky homework!) Hopefully I will be able to get the video to upload faster than at the normal snail pace!
