As Summer Comes to an End...

It's almost here, that dreaded first day of school. When last school year was ending we were begging for summer to hurry up and get here. We no longer wanted our 6am mornings, homework battles, early bedtimes and the constant whine of "I hate school" at pick up in the afternoon. Now, after 80 days of summer travel, late nights, late mornings, beach time, friend time and video games, I think we are all ready to head back, maybe. As mom, I know I am. Not to get rid of them but simply because they become socially unruly and so tired of the same momservations, that they are in desperate need to have someone other than me to talk to. 4 years and Counting

I woke up this morning way earlier than I would have liked. I was awake before Lance's first alarm went off, which is not a normal thing I like to do in the summer. The minute I opened my eyes I felt an uneasy feeling. I felt off. Like something was in the back of my mind that was yet to make itself known. I lay there listening to those shuffling around in the kitchen for breakfast and coffee before cruising off to work. Footsteps, garage doors, car engines roaring to life all invading my newly awaken ears. I still couldn't shake the feeling. I was restless. I wanted to get up but couldn't reason with my body to do so, so I tossed and turned, uncomfortable. After the locks have all been fastened, everyone safely tucked into their driver seats, probably blaring their radios (because that's what I would do!) I've had enough. The kids are still sleeping, a rarity. I grab my phone and start that normal that most people have... perusing social media and other various app...

Letters To Nana #1

Dear Nana, The other day your granddaughter found a recipe she wanted to give a try. She came to me and told me about a recipe for banana crunch muffins that she wanted to make, from scratch, on her own. My heart exploded with love and pride. I know for a fact, she got her love of baking from you. It's in her heart, it's in her bones and her being. I'm pretty sure she got your sweet tooth, also. This girl wants to do nothing but bake. I told her she needed to write down her recipe and check that we had all the ingredients. The recipe was fairly basic and we had everything on hand, even the tortured bananas she would need. We set a date to make them. Two nights ago, we decided to make them. I stood there as a warm body to support her should she need it. I knew she wouldn't but I love watching her concentrate and work her baking magic. She remembered all the things you taught her.
