Some of you already know that Xander got into preschool at Von Renner Elementary School. His first day was August 18. We got notice only a week before, lol, but were incredibly thankful that he actually got accepted. There were only fourty spots available and we were crossing every finger that we came across!! He goes to school Monday thru Thursday from 11:45 AM-2:45 AM.
The first day was the hardest. We actually ended up stayin the whole three hours! He just wasn't ready for us to leave him yet, so we stayed. It was incredibly difficult to see him so upset. I felt almost guilty for trying to leave him there, but deep down inside I knew this would be best for him, we both did. Through the whole day, Lance was our rock. Seriously, I would not have made it through that day without him.
The second day was almost harder! We couldn't even get him out the front door, and when we finally did, he must have been watching out cat way too much, he litterally put up both legs and arms and became as stiff as a board and refused to get in the car!!! It was like watching someone give a cat a bath!!! I wanted to laugh soo hard, but that wasnt going to solve our situation. We decided that fighting him wasn't going to help anyone at this point. So we calmed down and let him relax a bit and gave him a ten minute warning and told him we were all going to go today. To our surprise... it worked.
By this point we were already an hour late. Being that it is only preschool being late wasn't a big deal. It was a better that he actually went (eventually) than not go at all. So we got there and he walked in as if nothing had happened... again to our surprise. We talked to his teacher and she said that at about a quarter to two, we should just get up and leave. Don't distract him or try to say bye... just go. That was hard to take in... leave my child... and not say goodbye. Eventually they all went out side to eat thier snack. Xander followed all the kids outside and then came back in to make sure that we were going to follow him out. We told him that we had somethings to do and that he need to go out and play and off he went... again again.. to our surprise... !! Well, after debating with myself, lance and my mother, we decided that this was our chance ... and we ran!
I felt horrible ...
Here is a little funny story... after making that decision.. we realized that we had parked way too close to the playground and were now stuck here! If we had gone to the truck and tried to leave, he would have surely seen us and that just could not happen. So lance and I took a nice little walk around the neighborhood and waited for 45 minutes for them to go back in the classroom. The longest 45 minutes in history, Im sure, but well worth the wait. All I could think about was Xander and if he was crying or upset or if he was just fine... we just didn't know.
Finally the end of school came and it was time to pick him up. We walked in and he began to cry. His teacher said he was upset for about ten minutes and she reassured him that we would be back and then he was ok. I do think he was a bit upset with us... he told us "You said you were going to stay in the classroom but when i got back you were gone!" It was a learning process for all of us. We.. well actually I... had to learn to let him go.. that he would be ok... and he had to learn that we would ALWAYS come back for him... always.
The last two days of the week went incredibly well, better for Xander than me, lol! We didnt fight him to go anymore and he actually had a good time and he didnt cry at school anymore!
We are all soooo proud of him and how far he has come in just a short week. We know he is going to do so well in preschool and we are soo happy he is enjoying it!

Now that we are back in our own room again... it will be much easier for me to keep you all updated! Thanks for being so patient! I know im behind on a lot of things that have been going on, but i will eventually get that all updated!
